What changed for 2026

From 2022 through 2025, Arches ran a pilot timed entry system. If you wanted to be inside the park between roughly 7am and 4pm in the busy months, you needed a ticket booked in advance on Recreation.gov, and those tickets sold out. In February 2026 the Park Service announced it was dropping the requirement for the 2026 season. That means no ticket, no booking window, no 6pm scramble to grab a next-day slot. Most of the travel articles and tour operator pages you will find online still describe the old system, so if something you read tells you to reserve a time slot, check the date on it.

What you still need to reserve

Two things inside Arches remain reservation-only. The Fiery Furnace requires either a ranger-led ticket at $16 per person or a self-guided permit at $10 per person, and both are limited and go fast. The Devils Garden Campground takes reservations from March through October at $25 a night. Everything else in the park, including Delicate Arch, Landscape Arch, the Windows, Balanced Rock and Park Avenue, is first come, first served.

You can still get turned away at the gate

Dropping timed entry did not add parking. On busy spring and fall days the park still closes its entrance temporarily once the lots are full, then reopens as cars leave. The reliable fix is timing. Arrive before 8am or after 3pm and you will usually drive straight in. The middle of the day is when you sit in line, and it is also when the light is flat and the rock is hottest.

What the entrance fee covers

Arches is $30 per private vehicle and the pass is good for seven days. Canyonlands is the same price and requires no reservation at all. Worth knowing: the $100 international visitor surcharge introduced in 2026 applies to a short list of parks that includes Zion and Bryce, but not Arches or Canyonlands.

The half day you just got back

The real effect of losing timed entry is that your day is no longer built around a ticket window. Arches is a drive-and-stop park. Most visitors see everything they came for in two to three hours, which leaves the rest of the day open, and that is where a lot of people run out of plan.
